Presented for the first time in Canada, the FESTIVAL OF NEW SPANISH CINEMA will kick off its 2nd annual North American tour in Ottawa, from Sept. 5 – 11.
Three of Spain’s brightest film stars, Veronica Forqué, Silvia Abascal, Concha Velasco.), are represented with Juan Luis Iborra’s uproarious DESPERATE WOMEN. Other festival highlights include the multi Goya Award-winning CAMINO by Javier Fesser (The Miracle of P. Tinto, Mortadelo & Filemon: The Big Adventure), a powerful drama that questions Catholic fundamentalism; AMATEURS, a delicate story about two individuals who are lost in a lonesome world, by Gabriel Velázquez; and several remarkably assured debuts, including David Planell’s THE SHAME, Santiago Zannou’s ONE-ARMED TRICK, Albert Arizza ‘s RAMIREZ and A FIANCE FOR YASMINA, a fresh comedy about immigration in the South of Spain, which earned director Irene Cardona the top awards at the Malaga Film Festival.
This will be the Canadian premiere for many of these films. Following the Ottawa screenings, the Festival will go on to stops in Seattle, Chicago, Portland, Miami, Puerto Rico and San Francisco.
